Cat Decker, Executive Director, developed her skills from previous positions at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, SeaWorld and her director's position with of one of the largest animal rescue non-profits in Southern California. Her broad business background blends seamlessly with her passion for animals and the community to lead the Zoo with her vision into the future.
She has been able to bring her concept of the "synergy of three” to the Zoo, which involved analyzing the combined revenue increase from three rides – the Train, Carousel, and Ferris Wheel. Through her hard work, this plan has resulted in the Zoo generating an annual income exceeding 1 million dollars.
Cat received her undergraduate degree with honors in Communications from the University of California, San Diego. She went on to participate in two graduate programs. The first was the Masters of Public Relations and Advertising program at California State Fullerton. The second was the Business Management and Fundraising program at the University of California, Irvine.
She is a long time participant and presenter at numerous AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) national conferences. She is an Advisory Member for the AZA Advancement Committee and the Chair of the AZA Partner Directors. She also is a respected member of IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions). Cat is a Santa Ana resident and has been with the Zoo since 1996.
Kevin Jackson, Director of Operations, brings Zoo Operations experience and Tourist Industry and Restaurant experience since the early 2000's to the Zoo. He has also volunteered with animal rescue groups and helped with animal habitat maintenance projects. Kevin has received certification from the State Inspectors as a Train, Carrousel and Ferris Wheel operator and trainer as well as certification from the Aims Safety Seminar in Orlando, Florida. He's led numerous training sessions at the Zoo for rides, safety, and first aid. Keeping the rides at the Santa Ana Zoo safe and operational at all times is one of his best skills.
Tom Decker, Director of Communications & Technology, earned a B.S. in Information & Computer Science from UC Irvine and has taken post-graduate courses in management, fundraising, and grant writing. He has over 20 years experience in project management with Producer, Designer, and/or Writing credits for over 30 computer and board games. His grants written for the Zoo have generated substantial income for Zoo projects, education programs, and the animals.
Denise Rendon, Office Manager, has been with the Zoo since Feb. 2022. She started as a Sales Associate, Rides Operator and Membership Ambassador. She was promoted to manage Facility Rentals soon after that and to Office Manager in April 2023. Denise brings financial experience working with cash and deposits, excellent customer service and organizational skills from her previous jobs. She also volunteered with Engage 360, working alongside teachers to bring student support services to underprivileged youth through summer and afterschool expanded learning programs, preparing them for college and careers.
Kathy Heyne, Assistant Manager on Duty, comes to the Zoo from a strong retail background, including positions at Jo-Ann, Apple One, and Mervyn's. She also worked at the Orange County Fair and Event Center for over ten years working in the exhibit areas. She has experience with Girl Scout programs and provided support for the annual Christmas boutique, book fair, school carnival, as well as helping teachers as a PTA volunteer.
Yuli Gonzalez, Assistant Manager/MOD, Third Key, has been with the Zoo since September 2017. She brings customer service and management experience, and you will be able to find her most days in the Gift Shop or out around the Zoo.
Alex Decker, Inventory Manager, graduated from University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Digital Media. She has retail experience with a unique aptitude for inventory analytics that has allowed the Gift Shop to see increased sales each quarter she has been here. Alex brings with her great attention to detail and a savvy knowledge of what the customers want.
Finley Parker, Membership Administrator, joined the Zoo in 2021 as a Sales Associate and Membership ambassador. For the years after, he worked hard to make sure every guest felt welcome and heard. He used his experience in previous food service positions to make sure transactions were quick and easy so guests could get back to exploring the Zoo. He was promoted to Membership Administrator in July of 2024 and diligently processes data for the Members that support our cause. Continuing to work to answer any questions or concerns guests may have, as well as continuing to sign up and welcome members, Finn brings a bright smile with his customer service.
